SDP Adopts Olusegun Agboola as Oyo Governorship Candidate, Vows to Challenge 2027 Poll -

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State has adopted Mogaji Olusegun Agboola as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Agboola emerged as the party’s flag bearer during a substitution primary election held at the SDP state secretariat in Ibadan.

Accepting the nomination, the SDP candidate promised to introduce systems-based thinking and innovative governance approaches, stressing that the state required a departure from conventional methods of leadership.

He identified economic development as a major focus of his administration, pledging to implement policies that would create decent jobs, improve incomes and provide residents with opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

Agboola said Nigerians were not lacking in creativity or ability, but required effective systems and structures that would allow them to maximise their potential and achieve their aspirations.

He declared that the SDP remained committed to winning the 2027 governorship election, insisting that the party would not trade away its ambition of taking over the leadership of Oyo State.

The candidate also appealed to aggrieved members and stakeholders who had left the party to return, describing the SDP as a platform for true democrats and progressives while calling for unity among members, urging those with differing opinions to resolve their differences and work together for the success of the party.

The Oyo State SDP Chairman, Michael Okunlade, congratulated Agboola on his emergence and praised members for maintaining peace throughout the substitution process.

Okunlade charged the candidate to take the party’s message to all 33 local government areas of the state, remain accessible to the people and clearly communicate his programmes and policies.

He maintained that the SDP is determined to win the 2027 election and not interested in political negotiations that could undermine its ambition.

Earlier, the party’s Electoral Officer, Salam Ayomide, described Agboola’s emergence as a significant milestone for the SDP, calling for unity, integrity and a commitment to systems-driven development.

Ayomide urged party members to spread the SDP’s message across Ibadan, Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa zones, engage with residents and work collectively towards presenting a credible, people-oriented alternative in the 2027 governorship race.
