Oyo Police Partner with PCRC to Launch Safe School Initiative as New Academic Session Begins
IBADAN – In a bid to protect learning environments across Oyo State, the Oyo State Police Command has partnered with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) to bolster security around schools as a new academic session begins.
The joint initiative officially kicked off alongside the 42nd Anniversary Celebration of the PCRC in Oyo State, highlighting over four decades of community-police collaboration aimed at safeguarding local neighborhoods and public institutions.
Designed to create a robust security network around educational facilities, the Safe School initiative focuses on increasing police visibility, safeguarding school property, and protecting students, teachers, and administrative personnel. A major pillar of the strategy includes community-based intelligence gathering to quickly identify and neutralize emerging threats.
Key figures present at the launch included the National Chairman of the PCRC, Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, alongside the Oyo State PCRC Chairperson and several prominent educational stakeholders.
Speaking on the framework of the campaign, the command emphasized that creating secure learning environments requires active participation from all levels of the community. To achieve this, police authorities are deepening engagements with the PCRC Safe School Club, school proprietors, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), teachers, and students to establish direct channels for early threat identification and reporting.
Police personnel assigned to school protection duties have been directed to maintain high vigilance, keep close ties with local school management, and act swiftly on credible information.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command urged the public to stay alert and embrace a proactive security mindset.
“The Command particularly encourages everyone to ‘SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.’ Early reporting of suspicious activities can provide the Police with the actionable intelligence required to prevent security incidents before they occur,” the statement read.
Members of the public, school administrators, and parents are advised to report suspicious movements, vehicles, or individuals around school grounds immediately.
