Oyo NAWOJ Commends Federal, Oyo Governments Over Safe Release of Abducted Oriire Students and Teachers

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State Chapter, has commended the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government for securing the safe release of the students and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

In a statement signed by its Chairperson, Comrade Omolola Alamu, the association described the rescue as a result of coordinated efforts by both governments and security agencies.

Oyo NAWOJ said it received the news of the victims’ release with relief, noting that the period of uncertainty was painful for the families, the school community and residents of the state.

The association praised the security agencies for their intelligence gathering and rescue operations, which led to the safe return of the abducted students and teachers.

It also commended the Federal and Oyo State Governments for making the safety of the victims a priority and for showing commitment throughout the rescue process.

NAWOJ further acknowledged the contributions of community stakeholders, traditional rulers and civil society organisations, saying their collaboration played an important role in securing the victims’ release.

“As mothers, journalists and advocates for women and children, we understand the trauma such incidents cause. We commend the government for treating the incident not only as a security challenge but also as a humanitarian issue that required urgent attention,” the statement said.

While celebrating the successful rescue, the association urged the government to strengthen security in schools across Oyo State, especially in rural and border local government areas such as Orire.

It also called on the government to provide psychosocial support for the released students, teachers and their families to help them recover from the experience.

The association further appealed to the authorities to ensure that those responsible for the abduction are arrested and prosecuted to prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to Oyo NAWOJ, the safe return of the victims shows that when governments, security agencies and communities work together, lives can be saved.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to responsible journalism that promotes peace, protects children and supports national unity.

It also thanked the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies and everyone who contributed to the successful rescue of the abducted students and teachers.
