FCC Intensifies Oversight as Abass-Aleshinloye Marks 100 Days in Office

The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has reiterated its commitment to promoting fairness, equity, and transparency in Nigeria’s public service, with renewed efforts to tackle job racketeering and strengthen grassroots engagement.
This was made known by the Federal Character Commissioner representing Oyo State, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, during a press conference marking his first 100 days in office.
Speaking at the briefing, Abass-Aleshinloye said the Commission is working to reposition its operations to become more responsive, visible, and impactful, while upholding its constitutional mandate of ensuring equitable representation across the country.

A key focus of the Commission within the period has been the fight against job racketeering. The Commissioner disclosed that measures, including a whistleblower channel, have been introduced to expose and discourage fraudulent recruitment practices in federal establishments.
He noted that such practices undermine public trust and violate the principles of fairness and justice, adding that the Commission would continue to enforce strict compliance with its guidelines.

The Commissioner also highlighted ongoing collaboration with traditional institutions in Oyo State to deepen public awareness and engagement at the grassroots level. According to him, traditional rulers remain critical partners in promoting inclusivity and ensuring that federal character principles are better understood within local communities.

As part of efforts to improve efficiency, Abass-Aleshinloye said the Commission has enhanced its operational processes and increased public sensitization on its mandate, while also strengthening monitoring mechanisms to ensure compliance by federal institutions.
He further explained that beyond employment, the Commission’s mandate includes advocating for the equitable distribution of infrastructure and social amenities across all tiers of government.

Ŵhile acknowledging that some employment opportunities have been facilitated for qualified indigenes, he stressed that the overarching goal remains fair representation for all Nigerians, rather than selective access.
Abass-Aleshinloye called on citizens to take greater interest in the activities of the Commission and support efforts aimed at promoting accountability and national unity.
He also appreciated the leadership of the Commission, staff members, and stakeholders for their support, pledging continued dedication to the principles of justice, equity, and fairness.
