Oke’badan Continues Educational Impact as Haolat Olaigbe Foundation Awards Six Students Scholarships

There was an atmosphere of celebration at the Faculty of Financial Management Studies, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, as the Haolat Olaigbe Foundation awarded scholarships to six outstanding but financially disadvantaged students of the Department of Accountancy.
The annual scholarship presentation attracted the donor, members of his family, faculty management, students, parents, and other guests who gathered to celebrate another milestone in supporting education.

The scholarship initiative was established by United States-based accountant, Mr. Dauda Olasunkanmi Olaigbe, in memory of his late mother, Mama Haolat Olaigbe, whose sacrifices and determination ensured that her children received quality education despite financial hardship.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Olaigbe said the scholarship was created to preserve his mother’s legacy while extending a helping hand to brilliant students facing financial challenges.
“I do this out of love for humanity and to encourage others to give back to society. You don’t have to be wealthy before you can positively impact someone’s life. This scholarship is my own way of keeping my mother’s memory alive while investing in the future of young people,” he said.

The Dean of the Faculty of Financial Management Studies, Dr. Adekọla, commended Mr. Olaigbe for his generosity, noting that although he is not an alumnus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, he chose to invest in the future of its students because of his passion for education and the accounting profession.
Mrs. Adebola Olaigbe also encouraged the beneficiaries to remain humble and compassionate when they become successful. She shared her personal experience of being unable to pursue her dream of attending nursing school because of financial constraints, urging the students to make the most of the opportunity before them.
A childhood friend of the donor, Oloye Gbola Raji, who has consistently supported the scholarship initiative, advised the beneficiaries to use the award judiciously and remain focused on their academic pursuits.
Speaking on the impact of the initiative, the presenter and producer of Oke’badan on Splash FM 105.5 Ibadan, Temilade Aloko (Ahondiwura), said the programme has become more than a platform for promoting the history, culture and notable personalities of Ibadan.
“Since the scholarship initiative began in 2021 through Oke’badan, more than 25 students have benefited from scholarships and other educational interventions. Beyond showcasing the rich history and culture of Ibadan, the programme has evolved into a platform that connects philanthropists with deserving but financially disadvantaged students, making quality education more accessible to many young people. This is one of the impacts we are proud that Oke’badan continues to make in the lives of students and families.”

The highlight of the event was the presentation of a Meritorious Award to Mr. Dauda Olasunkanmi Olaigbe by the Faculty of Financial Management Studies Students’ Association, under the leadership of Comrade Okudero Felix Seyi, in recognition of his generosity, outstanding support for education and commitment to humanity.
Speaking on behalf of the parents of the beneficiaries, one of the parents expressed profound appreciation to the donor, describing the scholarship as a life-changing intervention that would ease the financial burden on many families.
The event was attended by heads of departments within the Faculty of Financial Management Studies, lecturers, students, parents and other invited guests.
The Head of the Department of Accountancy, Dr. Adepọju J. A., delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the donor and everyone who contributed to the success of the programme.
