Commend Makinde’s intervention, reaffirm support for Oyo State Government

Victims of the Circular Road demolition in Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State have appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to hasten the disbursement of compensation approved for property owners affected by the exercise.

The appeal was made by a leader of the Omission Group, Engr. Jimoh Ahmed, who expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde for approving compensation for owners of properties demolished, particularly those affected in 2023.

Ahmed, however, urged the governor to expedite the payment process, noting that the prolonged delay had subjected many victims to hardship and emotional distress.

He said some affected residents had suffered health challenges, while others had reportedly died while waiting for the compensation.

The group also commended the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters and former Commissioner of Police, Compol Sunday Odukoya (Rtd), for his continued accessibility and support in addressing the concerns of affected residents.

According to Ahmed, the recent peaceful protest by some victims was sparked by rumours that compensation had already been released, leading to confusion among affected property owners.

He appealed for understanding over the development, while reaffirming the group’s support for the state government.

Ahmed expressed optimism that the approved compensation would soon be paid, adding that beneficiaries would return to appreciate Governor Makinde once they receive their entitlements.
