Aare of Ibadanland Mourns the Passing of Olubadan, Ọba Owolabi Olakulehin.

The Aare of Ibadanland and Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States, His Eminence, Alhaji (Dr.) Dawud Makanjuola Akinola (De-Damak), has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin.

Oba Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, reportedly joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, just two days after celebrating his 90th birthday.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Faysol Oluwakemi, the Aare described the late monarch as an exceptional traditional ruler whose brief reign brought peace, unity, and pride to Ibadanland.

“Oba Olakulehin was a monarch of rare distinction, widely respected for his humility, wisdom, and steadfast love for Ibadanland,” Aare De-Damak stated. “Though his time on the throne was short, he stood firmly for the values of dignity, harmony, and cultural heritage that define our city.”

The Aare extended his heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the royal family, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), the Oyo State Government, and all sons and daughters of Ibadanland, urging them to find solace in the legacies of the departed monarch.

He also prayed for divine guidance as Ibadanland embarks on the process of royal succession, appealing for unity and adherence to tradition during this transitional period.

“May Ibadanland continue to thrive in peace, unity, and the enduring spirit of its traditions,” the statement concluded.
