Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appealed to residents and families of teachers and pupils abducted during the recent suspected bandit attack in Oriire Local Government Area to remain calm, assuring that the government and security agencies are fully handling the situation.

The Governor, who made the appeal during a press conference attended by heads of security agencies in the state, disclosed that seven teachers were abducted, while the exact number of pupils kidnapped is yet to be confirmed.

Governor Makinde also revealed that two operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, sustained serious injuries alongside other security personnel involved in the rescue operation.

He admitted that the situation remains difficult and challenging, but assured residents that the government would continue to deploy every necessary effort to ensure the safe return of the abducted teachers and pupils.

The Governor further disclosed that about six suspects have so far been arrested within the community in connection with the attack and abduction.

Recall that suspected bandits last Friday attacked and abducted school officials and students at a private school in Yáwóta, LA Basic School, and Community High School, Ahoro, Ẹ̀ṣíẹ̀lẹ̀, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
