2027: Agboola Promises Private-Sector Expertise in Oyo Governance -

The Social Democratic Party governorship candidate in Oyo State, Mogaji Olusegun Agboola, says he is contesting the 2027 election to bring his experience and accomplishments in the private sector into public service.

Agboola stated this while featuring on the Morayo Show in Ibadan, explaining that his decision was also influenced by what he described as a “divine call” to contribute directly to the development of the state.

He said, “We need to bring our accomplishments to the public sector. We’re already doing it as private individuals through charity organisations. But the greatest good we can do is with those publics.”

The Ibadan-born politician said his administration, if elected, would adopt a system-based approach to governance rather than merely addressing the symptoms of societal problems.

“Most of what they do now is just put plaster on the problem. Most of the time, the solution is systemic,” he said.

Agboola said his priorities would include strengthening local government administration, arguing that communities should have greater input in identifying and addressing their development needs.

He also questioned the use of state resources on federal infrastructure, particularly the Ibadan airport, saying government should prioritise projects that directly benefit residents.

On education and infrastructure, the SDP candidate criticised what he described as inadequate attention to the underlying problems affecting public schools and roads.

He said, “Government should have their priorities right. They should know that their service is not showmanship but to serve the people.”

Agboola also addressed the recent changes to the SDP governorship ticket, following the substitution of Michael Okunlade with him as the party’s candidate. He dismissed the disagreement as part of the internal struggles common to political parties.

He said the SDP remained committed to providing an alternative political platform and urged Nigerians to reject the idea of a one-party system.

On the 2027 election, Agboola urged voters to value their votes and assess candidates based on their ideas and capacity rather than election-day inducements.

He said voters should ask themselves whether a candidate had the knowledge and ability to lead before casting their ballots.
