Oyo Police Confirm Kidnap Incident at CRIN, Idi-Ayunre; Two Victims Rescued

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed a kidnapping incident at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) located in Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan.


According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at about 12:23 p.m. when representatives of the Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter, visited the CRIN nursery site to submit their annual collection of cocoa seedlings for the 2026 planting season.
While carrying out this activity, the farmers were reportedly abducted by unidentified armed men.


In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command disclosed that a joint security team comprising officers of the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local vigilante groups, and the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps) quickly mobilised to the scene following a distress call.


The swift response by the security agencies led to the successful rescue of two male victims, while three suspects were arrested during the operation and are currently in police custody.
The police added that intensive efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victim or victims, as security operatives have commenced aggressive bush combing operations and sustained pursuit of the fleeing criminals.
The command further assured residents that it remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state and urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and provide credible information that could assist ongoing security operations.
