Oyo Government Postpones Adire Carnival and Exhibition.
Ibadan, Nigeria – June 11, 2025.

The Oyo State Government has announced the postponement of the highly anticipated Adire Carnival and Exhibition, originally scheduled to hold on Friday, June 20, 2025.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement released to newsmen by the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun. According to the Commissioner, the decision to postpone the event was taken to ensure that it aligns with global best practices and delivers a seamless and immersive cultural experience for both residents and guests.
Dr. Olatunbosun emphasized that a new date will be communicated in due course, assuring stakeholders and the general public that adequate notice will be given once arrangements are finalized.
“The administration of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde remains committed to promoting, preserving, and developing the culture and tourism potential of Oyo State,” the statement read. “As captured in the Omituntun 2.0 Roadmap for Sustainable Development, tourism is recognized as a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and internally generated revenue (IGR).”
The Commissioner also highlighted the state’s recent successes in organizing culturally significant events such as the World Twins Festival, World Egungun Festival, World Tourism Day, Iyake International Festival, Oyo State International Tourism Summit, and the Aso-Ofi Festival.
Of notable mention was the Aso-Ofi Festival, which he said has significantly revitalized indigenous textile production in the state. According to him, this led to a policy initiative mandating civil and public servants to incorporate Aso-Ofi into their dress codes—further establishing Oyo State as the “Manchester of Indigenous Textile Production.”
The postponed Adire Carnival and Exhibition was being organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in collaboration with BIZRAIT and Adire Odua. The event aimed to celebrate and showcase indigenous textile craftsmanship on a grand scale.
In a follow-up statement, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, appealed for the continued support and understanding of all partners and participants as preparations continue for a rescheduled date.
“Oyo State remains committed to delivering an impactful and world-class cultural celebration,” he added.
