Philanthropist, Politician and Patriot, Chief Adegboyega Adegoke Shares His Ibadan Story on Oke’badan By Temilade Aloko.

EXCLUSIVE ON OKE’BADAN — Today, 7–8PM on Splash FM 105.5

Tonight’s edition of Oke’badan features a rare and captivating interview with Chief Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke — the Are Omo Egbe Balogun of Ibadanland, President of Jericho Businessmen’s Club, Founder of Solutions FM Ibadan, and Mogaji of Ile Abose, Oke-Gege area of the city.

In this special conversation, Chief Adegoke opens up about his life’s journey — from his humble childhood in Ibadan to his rise as a respected philanthropist, seasoned accountant, and passionate politician. He shares heartfelt reflections on growing up in the vibrant city of Ibadan, his fond memories of the Egungun and Oke’badan festivals, and the pride he holds in his cultural roots.

“Ibadan has birthed so many great sons and daughters, it is a land of legacy,” he said.

Chief Adegoke highlights the historical significance of Ibadan as the seat of regional power, home of West Africa’s first television station, Queen Elizabeth Road, and the iconic University of Ibadan. According to him, “Ajise bi Oyo laari” was a praise name born out of the greatness of Ibadan.

He also walks us through his educational and professional path — from Bishop Akinyele Independence Primary School to Koso Community Grammar School in Iseyin, Federal Government College Ogbomoso, and then Obafemi Awolowo University where he studied Agricultural Economics. Despite having no background in accounting, he challenged himself, passed the ICAN exams with distinction, and eventually became a Fellow. His impressive career spans top global institutions like Deloitte, FCMB, Schlumberger, and Oando Plc.

“I got all my jobs on merit. I knew no one — just had a good result and strong determination,” he said.

Chief Adegoke also discusses the power of mentorship, citing a memorable conversation with Professor Olufokunbi at OAU that inspired his pursuit of an MBA and ICAN certification. He encourages parents to teach their children the dignity of hard work and the power of speaking good things into their lives.

As Mogaji of Ile Abose, he plays a unifying role in his family compound and works closely with the Baale of Abose village. He also organizes an annual Abose Day celebration that brings his extended family together in love and unity.

In his capacity as the Are Omo Egbe Balogun of Ibadanland and President of the Jericho Businessmen’s Club — a recognized member of CCII — Chief Adegoke speaks about the collaborative efforts among Mogajis and stakeholders to tackle security issues in the city. He emphasizes that security is everyone’s responsibility.

On politics, Chief Adegoke reveals that his love for development pushed him to join the political space. He narrates his political journey from PDP to Accord Party, and later to APC, before returning to PDP where he is now contesting for the governorship of Oyo State.

“There’s no rift between me and Governor Seyi Makinde. I believe in collaboration and planning — I live by my six Ps: Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance,” he explained.

He speaks candidly about his desire for an Ibadan State, while acknowledging the complexities involved in state creation in Nigeria. Still, he remains hopeful for the future.

A generous giver and advocate for philanthropy, Chief Adegoke urges others to cultivate a heart of giving. When asked whether being both a media owner and politician creates a conflict, he responded confidently:

“Not at all. Solutions FM is professionally managed, and its team is not political. I simply enjoy good music, especially Barrister’s songs.”

For relaxation, Chief Adegoke is a proud member of Ikoyi Club in Lagos and recently joined the Ibadan Golf Club.
