Oyo State Government Elevates Chiefs to Lesser Obas, Dispels Fears of Interference in Alaafin Selection.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has clarified that he does not have a preferred candidate for the vacant Alaafin of Oyo throne, left empty by the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.
Makinde’s assurance came through Commissioner Olusegun Olayiwola, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, during a ceremony at Oba Adeyemi Mini Stadium in Oyo Town.
The event saw the elevation of twelve Baales to lesser Obas, with the presentation of Part II Recognized Chieftaincy certificates.
The newly recognized Obas include:
- Chief Olaniyi Adeoye Adegboye 111 (Oloodu of Ojongbodu, Oyo)
- Chief David Ademola Oyediran (Alaguo of Aguo, Oyo)
- Chief Samuel Olusegun Odurinde (Alajagba of Ajagba, Oyo)
- Chief Isiaka Tella Titiloye (Ona Isokun of Isokun, Oyo)
The governor’s statement aims to alleviate concerns about his involvement in the selection process for the next Alaafin of Oyo, ensuring a fair and traditional approach to filling the vacant stool.
