Oyo State Commissioner Dotun Oyelade Inspires Graduates with Career Journey at Splash FM Media Academy Ceremony”

SPLASH ACADEMY

At the 9th graduation ceremony of the Splash FM Media Academy, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, was asked to speak to the 38 graduates.

Oyelade spoke to the graduates in a relaxed manner, advising them to approach the event as they would a regular classroom session. He shared stories from his 47-year career as a broadcast journalist, recounting moments such as narrowly escaping danger while covering the Ali-Must-Go student protests in 1978, encountering General Olusegun Obasanjo during his Thank You Tour in 1978-79, reporting on the trial of notorious armed robber Lawrence Anini in Benin in 1985-86, and covering the Gen. Mamman Vatsa coup of 1986 in Lagos.

He admitted that, at 72, he still reports on government activities just as he did at 27, albeit with a few more wrinkles. He couldn’t pinpoint which experiences were most defining to his career.

Earlier, the General Manager of Splash and Lagelu FM stations, Mr. Tunde Olawuwo, praised Oyelade as a versatile professional in journalism and politics, highlighting his role as Executive Chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State from 2019 to 2023.

In response, one of the graduates, Mr. Michael Ajao, commended Oyelade’s reputation and his excellent performance as Executive Chairman of BCOS.

The ceremony marked the graduation of 358 students over the past nine academic sessions.
