As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator representing Oyo South, Sarafadeen Alli, is set to assume a traditional role that could effectively end his participation in partisan politics.

A statement issued by the Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Demola Ojo, directed the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, to elevate High Chief Alli to the position of Ekaarun Balogun of Ibadanland, in accordance with the Ibadan chieftaincy declaration.

The elevation is part of a broader move involving other high chiefs, including High Chief Akeem Bolaji Adewoyin and High Chief Kola Babalola, who are also to be conferred with beaded crowns.

Unless there is any last-minute change, the coronation ceremony has been scheduled for Friday, April 3, 2026, at Mapo Hall.

The statement noted: “Your Majesty is hereby informed that the coronation/crown-wearing programme for the above-mentioned High Chiefs has been fixed for Friday, 3rd April, 2026, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.”

It further urged the Olubadan to treat the exercise as a necessary traditional obligation aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the Ibadan traditional institution and dispelling insinuations that the delay in the conferment of crowns was politically motivated.

According to the statement, the immediate conferment of beaded crowns is essential to avoid “unnecessary insinuations” and to protect the sanctity of the Ibadan traditional system.
