Oyo 2027: Group Endorses Ex-Police Commissioner Owoseni for Governorship

A group, Oyo Lagba Forum (The Oyo Leadership Forum), has called on stakeholders in Oyo State to support the emergence of a credible and capable candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In a statement signed by its representative, Barrister Shina Oke, the forum consequently endorsed retired Commissioner of Police, Fatai Ajani Owoseni, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship race.
The forum also acknowledged the contributions of Governor Seyi Makinde to Oyo state, noting that his administration has been widely regarded for driving accelerated and sustainable development in the state.
The forum, however, stressed that beyond political transitions, the focus should be on competence, character, and the ability to add value, emphasizing the need for a thorough and merit-based leadership recruitment process.
The press statement also highlighted Owoseni’s 35-year career in the Nigeria Police Force, including his service as Commissioner of Police in Lagos and Benue States, as well as his roles as Chairman of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund and Special Adviser to the Governor on Security.
The group also cited his contributions to security and public service in the state, including coordination of security agencies, expansion of CCTV coverage, activation of emergency security lines, and facilitation of improved security presence in parts of Oke-Ogun.
The forum urged residents and stakeholders in the state to support efforts to draft Owoseni into the 2027 governorship race, expressing confidence that his leadership would further advance the development of Oyo State.
