Odidiomo Sensitizes Constituents on Cholera Prevention Amidst Outbreak.

As concern grows among Nigerians over the recent cholera outbreak, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West federal constituency, has urged his constituents to prioritize public health and hygiene to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

According to a statement by Tolu Mustapha, Special adviser Media and Public Affairs to Hon. Olajide, the lawmaker emphasized that cholera is caused by the bacterium Vibrio Cholerae, found in contaminated food, water, and human feces, and stressed the importance of community engagement in combating the disease. He encouraged community leaders and traditional rulers to educate their subjects on the dangers of cholera and the need for good hygiene practices.

Hon. Olajide reiterated that cholera is a preventable disease and urged Nigerians to take responsibility for their health by:

  • Avoiding untreated water from wells, rivers, or lakes
  • Frequently washing hands with soap and clean water
  • Keeping their environment clean and avoiding open defecation
  • Avoiding raw or undercooked meat, seafood, and vegetables
  • Seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms occur

He commended the federal and state governments’ prompt response and promised to support their efforts in providing clean water, sanitation, and healthcare facilities.
