Odidiomo Engages Oba Muritala Adebayo Akande for People-Centered Constitution Efforts.

As the momentum towards amending the 1999 constitution grows, the significance of collaboration between leaders and stakeholders in shaping Nigeria’s future has been underscored once again.
Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide (Odidiomo), the representative of Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West federal constituency in the House of Representatives, emphasized this during his recent visit to Oba Muritala Adebayo Akande, Chairman of West Midland Communications, owners of Splash FM/Lagelu FM, at his Felele, Ibadan residence.
In a statement by Tolu Mustapha, Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs to Hon. Olajide, it was revealed that the purpose of the visit was to gather opinions from prominent individuals like Oba Adebayo Akande, to shape a people-centered constitution that aligns with the needs of Nigerians.
Hon. Olajide, who represents Oyo State on the Constitution Review Committee, expressed the importance of seeking input from notable figures in Oyo state for the ongoing debate on constitutional amendments.
In response, Oba Adebayo Akande stressed the importance of regionalization, highlighting the legacy of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s free education policy, which significantly contributed to the development of Oyo State and produced numerous professionals across Nigeria.
Oba Akande emphasized that regionalization could address current shortcomings, with state creation as a subsequent step. He also noted the strategic advantage of the seaport extending to Cotonou, underscoring its significance for the West.
Hon. Olajide thanked Oba Adebayo Akande for his valuable insights and assured him that his contributions would be taken into account during the constitutional amendment process.
