No Closure of Gbagi Market: Oyo Govt Dismisses Rumours

The Oyo State Government has debunked rumours making the rounds about the alleged closure of the Bola Ige International Business Complex, Gbagi, Ibadan, on Monday, describing the claims as baseless and misleading.
In a statement made available to the media on Sunday in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives, and Industry, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi, reassured traders, shop owners, and the general public that the complex will remain open and normal business activities will not be disrupted.
He noted that the unfounded rumours were the handiwork of mischief-makers bent on causing unnecessary panic within the business community.
According to him, “The Bola Ige International Business Complex remains a hub of commercial activities in Oyo State, and at no point did the government contemplate shutting it down. We urge traders and the public to disregard this misleading information being spread by unscrupulous elements whose aim is to disrupt peace and normal business operations.”
The Commissioner further pointed out that government is aware of certain excesses within the complex, particularly the practice of some shop owners allotting spaces in front of their shops to petty traders and exploiting them financially. He assured that the state government is taking necessary steps to address these issues in a fair and balanced manner to protect the interests of all categories of traders.
He stressed that the present administration under Governor Seyi Makinde remains committed to creating a conducive environment for commerce and would never embark on actions capable of crippling business activities in the state.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Olajide Okesade, reaffirmed the government’s position, noting that adequate security measures have been put in place to maintain peace and order at the business complex.
“The Ministry wishes to assure all traders, customers, and stakeholders that there will be no closure of the Bola Ige International Business Complex on Monday. Everyone should go about their normal business without fear,” he said.
The Oyo State Government therefore urged the public to disregard false reports and rely only on information from official sources.
