MTG Urges Professionalism in Media as 2027 Polls Approach, Extends Easter Wishes to Nigerians

As Nigerians mark the 2026 Easter celebration, the Media Transformative Group (MTG) has urged media professionals nationwide to uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in the lead-up to the 2027 General Elections.
In a statement released in Ibadan, the group emphasized that the values symbolized by Easter—sacrifice, renewal, and hope—should guide journalists in promoting unity and national stability, rather than fueling division through sensational or biased reporting.
MTG noted that with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) already rolling out the revised timetable for the 2027 elections, the responsibility of the media in protecting democratic values has become even more crucial. The group specifically warned journalists against engaging in politicized narratives or allowing themselves to be used by political actors to spread misinformation and fake news.
The organization also stressed the importance of verification, urging practitioners to ensure that all election-related reports—particularly those concerning party primaries scheduled to begin on April 23, 2026—are accurate, balanced, and thoroughly fact-checked.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Chairman Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu, who also serves as General Manager of Pensioners’ 106.7 FM, called on media professionals to use their platforms responsibly by helping to reduce tension and promote peaceful discourse across the country.
Similarly, the Secretary of MTG, Prince Adejare Amuda, alongside the Publicity and Creative Director, Mr. Stephen Adedigba, highlighted professionalism as the foundation of public trust in journalism. They encouraged journalists to see the Easter season as an opportunity to recommit to the core values of the profession—truth, integrity, and objectivity.
The group further noted the importance of collaboration between the media and the creative industry to ensure that election coverage remains not only informative but also constructive. It also challenged media organizations to invest in digital literacy and capacity building in order to effectively navigate the evolving media landscape ahead of the elections.
MTG concluded its message by wishing Nigerians a peaceful Easter celebration and encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and actively engaged as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
