National leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and presidential flag bearer, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has paid a courtesy visit to Governor Seyi Makinde at the Government House, Ibadan.

The close door meeting which is believed to involve more political talks, and alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, lasted for over an hour.

However in an interview after the close door meeting,
Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), said his visit to Oyo State was at the instance of the party’s state leadership to inaugurate its office in Ibadan and hold consultations with stakeholders.

According to him, “We are here on the invitation of our party chairman in Oyo State to open our office in Ibadan and deliberate on important issues concerning our party.”

The former Kano governor explained that he considered it appropriate to first visit Makinde, whom he described as a longstanding associate, before proceeding to the NNPP office.

“The governor has always been our friend. I felt it was proper to come and pay him a courtesy visit before attending our party engagement,” he said, stressing that the meeting was rooted in personal friendship rather than partisan alignment.

Kwankwaso also revisited his political trajectory, recalling his foundational role in the formation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998.

He noted that he was elected Governor of Kano State on the PDP platform in 1999 and later served as Minister of Defence, among other national assignments.

He added that he subsequently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) before moving to the NNPP, where he currently serves as national leader.

Following the meeting with Makinde, Kwankwaso proceeded to the NNPP state secretariat in Ibadan for scheduled party activities and was expected to return to Abuja thereafter.
