Ibadan Indigenes Issue Ultimatum to Former Governor Ladoja and High Chiefs Over Olubadan Stool Dispute

LADOJA

Prominent indigenes of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, have given a six-day ultimatum to former governor of the state, Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, and other High Chiefs recently promoted to the status of Obas, to resolve their ongoing crisis.

The ultimatum was declared following a meeting held between the two parties at the Iwo Road residence of a former President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, Chief Bode Amao.

In attendance at the meeting were Ladoja, Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, along with other High Chiefs including the Ekerin Olubadan, Hamidu Ajibade. Notable indigenes such as Chief Bode Amao, former CCII President; Chief Yemi Soladoye; Primate Emeritus of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Primate Sunday Ola Makinde; Chief Yekini Akande; and Mogaji of Ibikunle family, Chief Abdulateef Adetokunbo Ademola were also present.

The disagreement primarily revolves around the Olubadan stool, with Ladoja and the High Chiefs at loggerheads.

Sources report that during the meeting held on Wednesday, both parties were urged to resolve their differences within six days, commencing from Wednesday, with an expanded meeting scheduled for Monday to formalize terms of reference.

Ladoja reportedly stated that his legal action against the crowning of the High Chiefs was due to the perceived anomaly in the process, emphasizing that he had no personal issues with anyone. On the other hand, the High Chiefs defended their positions, indicating reluctance to surrender the crowns again.

The parties agreed to the six-day ultimatum for resolution, with another meeting set for Monday to further address the matter.
