Haolat Olaigbe’s Memorial Scholarship Fund: Oke’badan Host Facilitates ₦300,000 Awards for Six Polytechnic Ibadan Students

The Haolat Olaigbe’s Memorial Scholarship Fund has once again brought joy and relief to students of the Accountancy Department at The Polytechnic, Ibadan. In its 2025 edition, six deserving students each received a scholarship award of ₦300,000, continuing a legacy of support for indigent students that began in 2021. The atmosphere during the presentation ceremony was filled with heartfelt gratitude, as both staff and students acknowledged the life-changing impact of the initiative.

The scholarship fund was inspired by a deeply emotional moment on the Oke’badan radio programme, anchored by Temilade Aloko Ahondiwura, the host of Oke’badan. During an exclusive interview, Chief Dauda Olasunkanmi Olaigbe—a retired accountant, U.S.-based professional, and philanthropist—recounted his life journey and the struggles of his late mother, Haolat Olaigbe, whose sacrifices enabled his education. Overcome with emotion, Chief Olaigbe vowed that no child should have to endure such hardship to access education. His story resonated deeply with Temilade, who also experienced personal struggles before completing her schooling.

Motivated by this shared understanding, Temilade asked Chief Olaigbe if he could offer scholarships to indigent students through her programme.

With enthusiasm, he agreed, marking the birth of the Haolat Olaigbe’s Memorial Scholarship Fund in 2021. The first beneficiary was the best female student of the Accountancy Department, a young woman from a less privileged background. Each subsequent year has seen an increase in the number of beneficiaries, with this year’s awards reaching a record six students.

The scholarship remains strictly merit-based, with a careful assessment of financial need.

The selection process is diligently supervised by the Head of Department, Dr. Moronkola, and the Dean of Faculty, ensuring fairness, transparency, and inclusivity, regardless of religion, gender, or state of origin.

The 2025 beneficiaries are:

OSENI Fatima Boluwatife

AMODU Joel Oluwatobiloba

ALABI Waliyat Bunmi

AYINDE Deborah Aduragbemi

AKINDELE Timileyin Akinloye

OBASHANU Precious

The scholarship cheques were presented by Alhaji Gbola Raji, a close friend of Chief Olaigbe, in the presence of the HOD, the Dean of Faculty, other departmental heads, and family representatives of the beneficiaries. The event highlighted the powerful collaboration between the donor, the academic leadership, and the Oke’badan platform that brought the vision to life.

What began as a heartfelt conversation on radio has blossomed into a beacon of hope, proving how media, compassion, and purposeful giving can transform lives and secure brighter futures for young scholars in Ibadan.
