Support is building across Akinyele Constituency I for the House of Assembly ambition of Lamidi Rukayat Balogun, as party leaders and grassroots stakeholders call for her emergence as the constituency’s candidate in the 2027 elections.

Several ward leaders, who spoke in Onidundun, described Balogun as a committed grassroots politician with deep-rooted ties to the constituency.

A ward leader, Fisoye Olatunde, referred to her as “a daughter of the soil,” noting her consistency and long-standing involvement in party politics. He traced her political journey to the era of former Oyo State Governor, Kolapo Ishola, adding that she has steadily built experience and loyalty within the party structure.

Olatunde appealed to party leaders at the state level to consider her for the 2027 ticket, stressing that she possesses the capacity and experience required for effective representation. He also recalled that during the 2023 elections, Governor Seyi Makinde had reportedly urged her to step down, with assurances of future consideration.

Another ward leader, Tiamiyu Musibau, called on party members and residents to unite behind Balogun, emphasizing that collective support is key to political success.
In the same vein, a stakeholder from Ward 1, Ejire Osuolale, expressed confidence in her leadership qualities, describing her as capable of attracting meaningful development projects to the constituency.

Speaking on her ambition, Lamidi Rukayat Tolani Balogun, who hails from Ward 4, Onidundun in Akinyele Local Government Area, reiterated her commitment to inclusive representation. She also advocated increased participation of women in politics ahead of the 2027 elections.

Balogun said the growing support from grassroots mobilisers and women groups reflects a shared desire for inclusive governance in the state.

She noted that her aspiration goes beyond personal ambition, describing it as part of a broader push for gender inclusion in leadership.

The aspirant assured constituents of effective and inclusive representation if elected, promising to prioritize the interests of women, youths, and all residents of Akinyele Constituency I.

“I will represent everyone fairly and ensure development reaches all parts of the constituency,” she said.

Balogun also pledged to attract projects and opportunities that would improve the socio-economic well-being of the people.

Supporters say her emergence would bring tangible dividends of democracy, particularly to underserved areas, while enhancing access to development initiatives and infrastructure.

The growing endorsements signal increasing grassroots momentum behind her candidacy, as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections in Oyo State.
