As we mark June 12—our Democracy Day—we honour the spirit of courage, sacrifice, and resilience that defines our nation’s journey toward justice and inclusive governance.
June 12 is not just a date; it is a symbol of hope. It represents the enduring will of Nigerians to have their voices heard and respected. It speaks to our collective dream of a nation where every citizen counts, and where power truly belongs to the people.
As Baàmẹ̀kọ́ of Ibadanland and an advocate for progress and integrity in leadership, I believe our diversity remains our greatest strength. Democracy thrives when all voices are included, when dialogue replaces division, and when service takes precedence over self-interest.
Despite our challenges—insecurity, economic struggles, and social inequality—we must not lose faith. These trials should inspire renewed determination to strengthen our democracy and build a nation that works for all.
I especially call on our youth: step forward. Be informed. Be involved. Your energy and ideas are essential to shaping Nigeria’s future. Democracy is not just about elections—it’s about participation, accountability, and vision.
