Buratai Lauds Late Olubadan’s Legacy of Unity at Civic Reception.

At a civic reception held on Saturday at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium by the Oyo State government in honor of the late Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, former Army Chief and Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, General Tukur Buratai, extolled the late monarch’s dedication to the unity and oneness of Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists, Buratai highlighted the late Oba’s commitment to serving humanity and promoting harmony among Nigerians. “The late Oba Balogun dedicated his life and time to promoting the unity and oneness of Nigeria,” he said. He described the late Olubadan as a “detribalised Nigerian who lived to serve humanity, Nigeria, and the people of Ibadanland.”

Buratai also shared his personal connection with the late monarch, stating, “He did not just accord me respect as an elder statesman; I was also honored with a chieftaincy title of Aare Akinrogun of Ibadanland, and I am proud to be associated with the late Olubadan.”

Before attending the reception, Ambassador Buratai paid a courtesy visit to the family of another late Olubadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji Aje Ogungunniso I. He was warmly received by the families and Oloris of the late Oba Adetunji. During his visit, Buratai offered prayers for the family and informed them of his presence in Ibadan for the final burial ceremony of the late Oba Balogun.

Additionally, Buratai prayed for the success of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, urging him to continue the legacy of his predecessors.

The Tukur Foundation, an NGO founded by General Buratai, organized a three-day free medical outreach program in Ibadan to honor the departed Oba Balogun. The first two days of the outreach were held at the Aliiwo Family Compound of the late Olubadan, while the final day took place at Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
