Anike-Ade Funke Treasure: The Proud Daughter of Ibadan Making Waves in Nigerian Broadcasting.

In a recent interview on “Okebadan” with Temilade, the trailblazing broadcaster Anike-Ade Funke Treasure, who made history as the first female to head an all-news radio station under the Radio Nigeria Network, opened up about her inspiring journey, her love for Ibadan, and her passion for storytelling.

Funke, who fondly reminisces about her childhood in Ibadan, spoke with pride about her hometown. “Whenever I talk about Ibadan, my heart swells with pride,” she shared, reflecting on her deep-rooted connection to the ancient city. One of her most cherished memories of Ibadan is J.P. Clark’s iconic poem that captures the essence of the city, a place the renowned poet himself called home during his time at the University of Ibadan.

Raised in a strict household by a soldier father and a teacher mother, Funke credits her disciplined upbringing for shaping her into the resilient woman she is today. She spoke passionately about her early interest in broadcasting and journalism, a field in which she has excelled, rising to the esteemed position of Assistant Director of Programmes at Radio Nigeria.

Discussing the challenges in the broadcasting industry, Funke highlighted the unique struggles female broadcasters face, especially in balancing demanding careers with family life. “It’s crucial for spouses to understand the demands of this job,” she noted, emphasizing the importance of support systems for women in the field.

Funke is also the visionary behind the Funke Treasure Table Tennis Championship (F3TC), a sports initiative dedicated to empowering young girls in junior secondary schools. Her commitment to social causes doesn’t stop there; she’s also a passionate advocate for menstrual hygiene through her Sanitary Pad Media Campaign, which aims to provide free sanitary pads to girls in need.

Beyond her illustrious broadcasting career, Funke is a woman of many talents. She has authored three books and continues to nurture her craft even after retiring from Radio Nigeria. When she’s not writing or championing causes, Funke enjoys indulging her love for fashion and spending her leisure time exploring new interests.

With her remarkable career and unwavering love for her roots, Funke Treasure is a shining example of what it means to embrace one’s heritage while breaking new ground in Nigerian media.
