Oyo state government has debunked reports from some quarters claiming that the state government has demolished a property belonging to a former Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan for political reasons.
The commissioner for lands and urban development, Hon. Akin-Funmilayo Williams who made this known when he led officials from the ministry and journalists to the supposed site clarified that only fences erected illegally to block access road was brought down.
The commissioner also explained that the decision was taken after receiving a lot of complaints from residents of the community and serving notices to those concerned, noting that even the approval claimed to be obtained by the federal ministry of lands, housing and urban development prohibited those concerned from blocking the access road linking to the major road.
He equally clarified that the property of the former Deputy Governor in question, is an undeveloped land without structure closed to the illegal fence and that the state government could not have demolished a landed property with no structure
Other residents who spoke recounted several efforts made to ensure a peaceful understanding but alleged that they had been subjected to intimidation and harassment by the former Deputy Governor until they resorted to following due process
