Wofun-Olodo Robbery: Oyo Police Arrest Three, Recover Victim’s Phone

IBADAN — The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery gang allegedly responsible for the killing of a 44-year-old woman, Mrs Wahab Rukayat, during a robbery attack at Wofun-Olodo area of Ibadan.

The incident occurred on August 4, 2026, at about 2:30 a.m., when armed robbers attacked the residence of one Alhaji Olatokunbo.

During the attack, the robbers allegedly killed his wife, Mrs Wahab Rukayat, while other occupants of the residence sustained serious injuries.

The suspects reportedly carted away several mobile phones, wristwatches, $400 and other valuables estimated at about ₦3.493 million.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on October 3, 2026, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed that the case be transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for further investigation.

The statement said sustained intelligence gathering and the strategic use of technology led operatives to a suspected criminal hideout in the Sabo area of Ibadan.

It said the operation, carried out on October 2, 2026, at about 9:00 p.m., resulted in the arrest of three suspects identified as Akinrinola Oluwatobi, 28; Okunola Mathew, 24; and Ibrahim Rabiu, 23.

A 7 Plus, allegedly belonging to one of the victims of the Wofun-Olodo robbery, was recovered from the suspects.

The statement added that an identification parade was conducted, during which surviving victims identified the three suspects among other persons presented as members of the gang allegedly involved in the August 4 robbery.

The Police said the suspects also confessed to their alleged involvement in the robbery and provided information about the roles they played in the operation.

They reportedly told investigators that they participated in the attack, during which valuables estimated at ₦3.493 million were taken, and that the woman was killed in the course of the operation.

The suspects also allegedly provided information linking them to other robbery incidents around the Wofun-Olodo and Akobo areas of Ibadan.

The Commissioner of Police has directed the VCRU and other relevant units to intensify efforts to arrest other suspected members of the gang who are still at large, as well as persons suspected of receiving or disposing of proceeds from their alleged criminal activities.

The Command also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to assist the Police in preventing and investigating crimes across the state.
