Orders VP Shettima to UK to Accompany Late President’s Body Home
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally announced the passing of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari.
President Buhari died earlier today, Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London at approximately 4:30 p.m., following a prolonged illness.
In the wake of this sad development, President Tinubu has personally spoken with the widow of the former President, Her Excellency Mrs. Aisha Buhari, to express his heartfelt condolences and solidarity during this time of national mourning.
As part of official protocol and in honour of the former leader, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the late President’s body back to Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria as a democratically elected President for two terms, from 2015 to 2023. Prior to that, he led the country as a military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.
As a mark of respect for the departed statesman, President Tinubu has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-staff.
