Asake, Afolayan and the Christian jihad by Gbemi Falona
A few days ago, the internet was agog and in uproar, because of a video of the sage cinematographer and the creator of the blockbuster movie Anikulapo, Kunle Afolayan.
There was a video of him and his beautiful daughter dancing, but some keen-eyed people claimed it was provocative.
Today 29th of February, Asake a Nigerian hip hop artist dropped the video to his song Only Me, and all hell broke loose on the internet, and those furious are Christians, at least that’s what most of them call themselves.
The crux of the matter seems to be the portrayal of Christian religious garbs worn by Asake and his video vixen.
A lot of people criticized him for disrespecting the Christian faith, in the video he was dressed in a Catholic priest-like gown, had a circular light👼 on his head, and seemed to be conducting a deliverance session, by using money to induce a kind of manifestation on video vixens garbed in the same Catholic like attire.
Sincerely nothing looks strange to me from the above description.
I have seen worse and it’s not in a music video, Indaboski Bahose actually does a full WWE wrestling-like deliverance in his church (not music video) and no one seems to bat an eye🤷🏾♂.
I even read comments of angry Christians who have vowed to end Asake’s career because of his gross disrespect to their Christian fate, I’m just curious to know how they saw the video in the first place 🤔 Se Christian ma n wo secular music video nii?💁🏿♀😲 Abi they are mistaking Asake for Dunsin Oyekan nii?
I’m not understanding oo.
I believe that Christianity not religion, is the thing of the mind, a personal relationship with Christ, emulating and obeying his deeds and commandments in the bible, I don’t see how a music video affects this.
So I’m I for the disrespecting of any religion and what it stands for? No. So why do I seem to be nonchalant to the “provocative” and “blasphemous” Asake video?
One, Asake is not a gospel music minister, he never claimed to be one, so I see no reason for any real Christian to be triggered by a music video that should not be on their playlist.
I believe we should be more worried about videos of young boys spraying loads of money on pastors in a church, a scene reminiscent of what’s obtainable in club dorime session.
Gospel music with strong Amapiano beats and worldly catchy phrases like (Gbe body! Gbese fun Jesu! Ayiii!! Wahala Wahala! Wa wa warisi ) that triggers dances that make one forget his/her home training is of a more significant concern for Christendom.
I met Kunle Afolayan today, and before I could ask him about his viral daughter-father dance video, he said his six-part series of the movie Anikulapo is premiering on Netflix tomorrow, tomorrow? And he danced a few days ago?
Well, I’m not good at maths but this calculated coincidence is a sum I can’t get wrong. The timing seems calculated, perhaps a clever marketing strategy.
We need to be able to decipher what is a goof and what is an intentional marketing trigger.
And for those threatening brimstone and fire on Asake on behalf of Christ, did He say you should fight for Him? Is there a requisite Christian attire stated in the bible? Is it the one Asake wore?
So why the fuss🤷🏾♂
