2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Makinde pledges to do more to secure Oyo state.

In commemoration of this year’s armed forces remembrance day, Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde has assured residents that he would work more to strengthen the security architecture in the state to ensure everyone is safe and secured.

The Governor Makinde also hinted on plans to draw up a welfare scheme for the families of recently slain five forest guards at the old Oyo national park.

The unique remembrance day which holds every 15th of January and commemorated in Nigeria as armed forces remembrance day is set aside to appreciate, raise concern for the welfare of disabled, aged ex service men, their widows and children of slain soldiers who fought during the first, second world wars, Nigeria civil war, international peace keeping missions and other internal security warfare.

Activities for this year’s ceremony were held at the main bowl of the Lekan Salami stadium Adamasingba, instead of the government house cenotaph due to ongoing construction works at the Agodi government house

Lying of wreaths, observance of a minute silence, firing of round of volleys and symbolic release of white pigeons to herald peace were highpoints of activities to commemorate the day even as the Governor inspected the parade.

Speaking after the ceremony, Governor Seyi Makinde commended the effort of security operatives in sustaining the relative peace currently being experienced across the nation and assured residents that his administration would work more for a more secured Oyo state.

On his part, the Commandant General and chairman Nigerian Legion, Oyo state, Julius Alabi applauded the federal government and Oyo state government for the improvement of their welfare.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Security heads, top government functionaries, old soldiers, representative of widows and children of slain soldiers amongst others graced the event
